Roman Chamomile
Chamaemelum nobile

Traditionally Used for
Supporting relaxation, digestive comfort and restful sleep in Western herbal medicine.

Why we chose it

Roman Chamomile is the foundation of Relaxing Moon. We chose it for its long history in Western herbal medicine as a calming botanical, particularly suited to the luteal phase when relaxation and restful sleep can become more difficult.

Potential benefits

Key constituents

  • Flavonoids

  • Apigenin derivatives

  • Sesquiterpene lactones

  • Volatile oils

  • Paeoniflorin

Research

Roman Chamomile has a long history of use in European herbal medicine. Modern research has investigated its flavonoids, volatile oils and other bioactive compounds for their potential calming, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. However, direct human clinical evidence for Roman Chamomile and sleep remains limited.

Ginger

Ginger
Zingiber officinale

Traditionally Used for
Supporting digestion, circulation and menstrual comfort.

Why we chose it

We included Ginger for its long history of use in women's herbal medicine and its modern research relating to menstrual discomfort. It also complements the other botanicals by bringing a traditionally warming element to the bleeding-phase formula.

Potential benefits

  • Gingerols

  • Shogaols

  • Zingerone

  • Essential oils

Research

Ginger is among the better-studied botanicals for primary dysmenorrhea. Clinical trials and systematic reviews suggest that oral ginger may reduce menstrual pain, although study quality and dosage differences limit certainty. These findings do not establish that Release Moon itself provides the same effect.

Cramp Bark

Cramp Bark
Viburnum opulus

Traditionally Used for
Supporting menstrual comfort and easing occasional muscle cramps.

Why we chose it

Cramp Bark has a long history of traditional use for supporting menstrual comfort. We included it in Balance Moon to help support women during the luteal phase, when cramping and pelvic discomfort may begin before menstruation.

Potential benefits

Key constituents

  • Scopoletin

  • Chlorogenic acid

  • Flavonoids

  • Tannins

  • Phenolic compounds

Research

Cramp Bark has traditionally been used in Western herbal medicine to support menstrual comfort and occasional muscle cramps. Modern research has investigated its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, although direct clinical studies on menstrual discomfort remain limited.

Nettle Leaf
Urtica dioica

Traditionally Used for
Supporting general wellbeing, fluid balance and nutritional nourishment in Western herbal medicine.

Why we chose it

We selected Nettle Leaf for its traditional role as a nourishing herb in women's herbal medicine. It complements the menstrual-comfort botanicals and contributes a different phytochemical profile to the bleeding-phase blend.

Potential benefits

Key constituents

  • Flavonoids

  • Chlorogenic acid

  • Quercetin derivatives

  • Carotenoids

  • Naturally occurring minerals

Research

Nettle Leaf contains a variety of polyphenols and other bioactive compounds investigated for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Although nettle is also a naturally mineral-containing plant, the mineral content of the finished extract has not been established here. Evidence specifically supporting nettle extract for menstrual symptoms remains limited.

Rose
Rosa spp.

Traditionally Used for
Supporting emotional wellbeing and menstrual comfort in traditional herbal practices.

Why we chose it

We included Rose to bring a traditionally soothing botanical element to Release Moon. It complements the more targeted menstrual-comfort herbs while reflecting Moon Affair's approach to caring for both physical and emotional wellbeing during menstruation.

Potential benefits

Key constituents

  • Flavonoids

  • Anthocyanins

  • Phenolic acids

  • Tannins

  • Aromatic compounds

Research

Research on Damask Rose (Rosa damascena) has investigated menstruation-related pain, headache, fatigue, anxiety and bloating. A systematic review reported improvements in some outcomes, including bloating, but did not find statistically significant improvements in menstrual pain or anxiety. Many included studies used aromatherapy or topical preparations rather than oral extracts.
